The Hansen Vineyard is just down the street from our Crane Ridge Estate. This year we were fortunate to get this gorgeous Grenache fruit along side our awesome Zinfandel allocation. Allowing the wine to mature an extra twelve months in neutral oak barrels really gave it a chance to develop some earthy, spice characteristics that complement the classic berry quality found in Grenache. Served room temperature or chilled, this grape is summer in a glass.
Yum, yum, yum. This wine is just soooo good. It is dominated by a braised strawberry nose with sweet white hyacinth and fresh fennel to support it. The subtle oak aging comes through as fresh brioche on the nose and follows up at the end with a warm toastiness in the finish. The quintessential cheese wine, its medium acidity on the palate provides the flavors of strawberry fruit leather, pink peppercorn and a hint of pastrami. Mmmm, I’m hungry!
