The Hansen Vineyard is just down the street from our Crane Ridge Estate. Every year we are fortunate to get these quality Zinfandel grapes. Usually a more understated Zin, the 2006 vintage gave us the most intense flavor from these grapes!
Each year I strive to make the best wine I can, but I have to make at least one wine each year that is a “Yum!” wine. This year it was the Hansen Zinfandel. Mixed berry jam, Chambord liqueur, lavender and the crunchy crème brûlée topping. Doesn’t this sound like dessert in a glass? The flavors are just as you expect from the nose with macerated berries mixed with crystallized ginger. Etched tannins and a hint of residual sugar balance the substantial alcohol that resulted from the super-ripe berries. These qualities add up to a great wine to sip before or after dinner. Pair it with some spicy BBQ and you can drink it any time you like!
