Livermore Valley

The Raboli Vineyard was planted in the early 1900’s and purchased by Carlos and Pasquale Raboli (two brothers from Italy) in 1919. Wine made at their Livermore winery was delivered weekly to the coal-mining town of Tesla. Today we harvest grapes from this low-yielding, dry-farmed, head-pruned vineyard to bring you a Zinfandel with complex characteristics achieved only from true old vines.

Every year these vines surprise me. This year it seems more serious than the jammy fruitiness of recent years. While filled with ripe blackberries and blueberry fruit glaze, it has a gorgeous gardenia floral quality tinctured by cracked black pepper. The flavors are fruit forward yet rich with an umami-ness; like a black pepper marinade made with a hint of soy sauce. Rounded tannins give structure to the surprising balance of alcohol and acid.
