Petite Sirah has some of the thickest skins of all Vitis Vinifera grapes. This unique feature of PS grapes makes it possible to create a wine that is so dark purple that it is almost black. But hand in hand with color anthocyanins go grape tannins, so waiting to pick the fruit until these tannins are sufficiently ripe is the key to creating a wine that is ready to drink when the fruit is at its brightest. Our Petite Sirah is from the Ghilmetti Vineyard.
There is no mistaking this wine for anything other than Petite Sirah. The incredible blackness of its color is matched only by the blackness of its aromas. The campfire-smoked blackberries are beautifully complemented by fresh roasted coffee beans and softened by the hazelnut aroma found in Frangelico. Smoky, dark berries fill the palate as the ripe tannins brush across your tongue like rough velvet.
